Our artist sketched up an alien model for our character "an initial idea". So I started to model the character and got it as close to the picture as possible. The character probably will not be implemented into the prototype at this point as the complete character's animation, rigging and texturing will not be done by the end of semester. The model was box modeled in Maya and took me nearly a week to finish on and off.

The game has been been ticked into the box of being a prototype and is good enough for the final presentation. After weeks of fixing a lot of things mainly by our programmer it was good news to finally hear it was a complete prototype. Now we have to finish up on the presentation layout with our power point, documentation, trailer video and speech.

Just finished watching Juice it or lose it.
Juice it explores the little aesthetics and visuals of games and how they can be so much better with the smallest changes. Once they start to build up they can make a game look a lot more appealing. This also brings up something interesting that the core gameplay for a game does not necessarily mean
it will be successful. All areas of what make a game a game must be layed out and brainstormed thoroughly. A game is made up of all the elements, visuals and aesthetics, sound, gameplay, story (if applicable). But the main point of Juice it or lose it or what they were trying to share was that once you have your core gameplay
down work on refining the aesthetics of the game and how it can be more visually interesting.

The group has finally warmed up to the alien idea which hopefully will drive the game in a better direction. The core gameplay for an actual game is still missing but is getting there. Concepts for characters and mobs still haven't been finalised which is making it hard for the modellers to get something down to replace the placeholders right now. Our group communication has been pretty terrible lately as well. Half the group would be updated on one thing while the other half would be updated on other things without knowning. We started up on social networks and messenger programs to help with the communication problems more. We also started documenting with task sheets for things to be done for the week and what each member has done so far. We came up with our first alien concept:

When we presented our game the teachers brought up a couple of interesting ideas with our game so far. Firstly our main character placeholder was a small character with a big head which looked like a "cute alien" and was suggested that our game be about an alien character rather than a bland generic human. Though the group does not agree with this idea, I think the alien idea could work well with the game.
The game also for many has only had mechanics and does not have core gameplay of what makes a game. We have been receiving complaints that our game has enough mechanics but has no game.
I have started animated the alien placeholder in our game. But our main focus is to get a solid game down that people can actually play for the prototype.

Production

We are now in development stage or our game and a step closer to forming up a prototype. Last week in our group meeting we had been stuck in production stage, coming up with multitudes of ideas and unable to pinpoint one down. Aesthetic themes and game play was not pinned down which stopped us from moving into the development of the game. By the time our group meeting with the lead producers (teachers) happened we were informed that we were stuck in production stage and should move into development stage not worrying too much on solid ideas. We were also enlightened that the game will evolve so nothing is to be concrete which our groups problem at the time. This was the important advice we received this week.
At the moment we have basic mechanics in for the game and our group are slowly building assets for the game not necessarily will be in the game but can inspire other ideas.

Final Pitch roughly refined

The biggest problem with the last game pitch was that it was not refined and built upon since Week 3 enough. The game idea was still liked but the our team did not expand on the game enough for it to be a finalized game idea. Many game ideas left up in the air unanswered but our team has been brainstorming and adding in new game concepts, mechanics and visuals that may possibly be in the game.
Our artist has been designing our themed enemy mob in the game with silhouettes and the character you play as as seen below (credited to Beau and Gabe).
